The Viollets and cabinetry have embraced one another for at least seven generations. Beginning in the late 1700s, the Viollet (then spelt like the color, Violet) family worked with local woods to create furniture. Based in the alpine town of Seyssel, France, each generation passed their skill and knowledge onto the next, developing more complex designs and ideas for joinery along the way. In the past century, the workshop has incorporated the art of marquetry, and embellished veneers with shagreen, straw, parchment, mica, gypsum and horn. Atelier Viollet remains one of the few workshops that has taken on such a broad spectrum of materials and techniques.
Our success not only comes with the range of materials and processes, but also with our fervent dedication to the designers, clients, and the other artisans we work with. Their vision and suggestions intermix with that of the workshop’s in order to produce harmonious results.
