Recently, Atelier Viollet was approached by Raison Pure’s foundation L’Orangerie, also known as RPNYC L’Orangerie, with a project unlike any other. RPNYC L’Orangerie is a foundation that helps inner-city high school students gain exposure to design and learn how to apply these skills through various projects. Guided by mentors and those established in the industry, students conceptualize and produce projects.
For their most recent project, the students drew a design inspired by lower Manhattan to be translated into a veneer marquetry table. Atelier Viollet accepted the invitation to take part in the fabrication process. We helped lay the student’s motif on the table base, gluing it down to make an imaginative marquetry table top. Once set, coats of finish were applied.
Below, the design, followed by the process of creating the table.
Atelier Viollet commends RPNYC L’Orangerie for their efforts to spread the value of craftsmanship amongst the younger generation. We are honored to help spread an appreciation for artisanal work. Furthermore, we applaud the students who took part in this project.
