Atelier Viollet‘s straw marquetry expert, Sandrine Viollet, is currently working on a new project with the luminous material. The series of panels are designed with a golden sunburst pattern distributed throughout the entire piece. Each straw stem reflects oncoming light at various gradients dependent on their individual orientations. Due to this effect, the viewer notices this play between straw and light no matter the angle at which he or she stands.
Despite the rectangular geometry of the panels, the lines of straw are uninterrupted as they continue onto adjacent edges and surfaces. Such a patterned continuity nods towards the intricate relationship between the straw and its wood backing, brought together by the patient hands that merge the two.
