Patrick Sevray began working at Atelier Viollet in February of 2014. Although the newest member of the team, he has quickly adapted to the workshop’s environment. He starts every morning like the rest of the team by checking in with Jean Paul Viollet to discuss what his day will look like. He then prepares himself for the day of crafting that lays ahead of him.
Coming into Atelier Viollet, Patrick already had experience with many different techniques such as lacquer and wood marquetry. In the workshop, he found himself immediately enamored with the new materials he was given the opportunity to work with, particularly shagreen. He likes its physical aspects such as its circular makeup and unique texture, as well as its strength and complete versatility.
Patrick deeply appreciates the ability to work with various materials and projects. More than anything, he revels in the opportunity to to work on Atelier Viollet’s exceptional projects because he views each piece as eternal. “Each piece will belong to someone,” Patrick says, “and will then be passed on from person to person. What we are making here is real.”
